A slower paced style of yoga for restoration and relaxation, Yin Yoga is a passive and nourishing practice, ideal for anyone needing a meditative and healing regime.
Yin yoga differs from other forms of yoga in that it is not dynamic; poses or asanas are held for extended periods of time, usually between three and five minutes with supportive props.
Yin targets connective tissues, applying moderate stress to improve flexibility and increase circulation. While the pace might be slower than other styles, that doesn’t mean that Yin isn’t challenging; holding the poses for longer requires sustained effort physically as you release tension from the ligaments and tendons. We use the breath to move deeper into the postures, which are mainly held seated or lying down, using gravity to help to release the tension stored in the body.
Yin is ideal for people who struggle with back or joint pain, and those looking for a more internalised approach to yoga.
Our classes are designed to help relieve and heal, improving mobility and flexibility, balancing body and mind. Following a Yin yoga class, expect decreased stress levels and a sense of general wellbeing and peace. Our mindfulness-based Yin yoga classes are suitable for everyone, young or old, experienced or first timers.
With its roots in the Taoist tradition, Yin yoga is essentially concerned with balance and harmony, following the principles of yin and yang. It is not intended as a complete practice in itself, but rather as a complementary practise to balance the effects of more active forms of yoga and exercise.
In the modern world where the lifestyle can be very yang – come and find your balance by practicing Yin yoga.
We offer a range of different Yin Yoga classes at Hairu Yoga in our Munich studio, with something suitable for all levels.
